In the 77th minute of Sunday's clash at Old Trafford, Martinez jarred his knee when trying to beat Ismaila Sarr to a through ball, and was left writhing on the turf in agony. It soon became clear that the Argentine would not be able to continue, and he couldn't even leave the pitch by himself due to the pain. United's medical team stretchered Martinez off and he was moved to tears as he was taken down the tunnel for further assessment, leaving supporters worried that he could now be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Martinez's latest injury blow comes 12 months after he sprained the medial collateral ligament in his knee during a clash against West Ham. He sat out the majority of the second half of the 2023-24 campaign as a result, but has been a key player for United again this term, racking up 32 appearances across all competitions.
WHAT AMORIM SAID
United head coach Ruben Amorim gave an ominous update on Martinez after the game, telling reporters: "Licha is so important for us, not just the player but the character. I think it is a bad situation. Let’s wait to assess things."

United went on to lose 2-0 against Palace, with Jean-Phillippe Mateta grabbing both goals for the visitors. The final result means United have gone four league games without a goal against the same opponent for the first time since 1983. It was also the Red Devils' seventh home defeat of 2024-25, matching the club's worst Premier League record across an entire season set under David Moyes in 2013-14.
