According to reports in The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are considering making a summer move for Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Marco Reus, rated at €28m (£25m) by Transfermarkt, with the 28-year-old stalling on a new deal with the Bundesliga giants.
What’s the word, then?
Well, The Mirror says that the Germany international’s contract with Dortmund is due to run out in 2019, but he is waiting to see how ambitious the club are going to be in the transfer market this summer before committing to new terms.
That could allow an English club like Spurs to swoop in and attempt to sign him at the end of the campaign, although The Mirror reports Liverpool may also be keen on the 28-year-old who has made an impressive return to first-team action following a long-term absence through injury.
How has Reus done this season?
The attacker only made his return from a cruciate ligament injury last month, but he has already made five appearances in all competitions for Dortmund, scoring twice in three Bundesliga outings.
The first of those was a stunning strike in a 1-0 win against Borussia Monchengladbach, while the other came in a 1-1 draw against Augsburg at the Signal Iduna Park on Monday.
Reus has shown his versatility in forward positions by already playing on both flanks and as a number 10 in his handful of outings for the German giants.
Would he be a good signing for Tottenham?
He certainly would be, as long as he can prove his fitness.
The 28-year-old has had plenty of injury problems in the last few years but his early return from a serious one this time around has certainly been promising that he can get back to his best.
The attacker has an impressive 91 goals and 61 assists in 194 appearances for Dortmund in total, while he has also has nine goals in 29 caps for Germany to show the quality that he has.
That said, with Lucas Moura, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Son Heung-Min and Erik Lamela already available in the positions behind Harry Kane, it is difficult to see where Reus would fit in right now.
