It’s no great secret where Southampton have struggled most this season. Despite being 16th in the Premier League table, they’ve actually created the seventh-most chances of any side in the division yet averaged just one goal per game.
Indeed, Saints’ strike-force has struggled to find the net this term, barring a flurry from Charlie Austin earlier in the campaign, and bringing in another source of goals will surely be one of Mauricio Pellegrino’s priorities for the January transfer window.
For this weekend, however, Southampton’s current options in attack will have to do. 11-cap international Manolo Gabbiadini began the season in the starting XI, but in recent weeks has found himself playing second fiddle to Shane Long – who Transfermarkt value at just £7.2million.
