Speaking ahead of his appearance on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Yaya Toure insisted that he will not be retiring any time soon and that he is keen to get back on the pitch after a failed spell at Olympiacos – Celtic should move for the midfielder to add some much needed steel and control to their midfield.
What’s the word?
Well, the Ivorian spoke of his desire to continue playing for at least another two years, stating that he believes a modern day player can continue into their forties and that it is “definitely not the end” of his footballing career.
Clearly not disheartened by a disappointing stint in Greece with the champions, the former Manchester City man thinks he can still perform in the middle of the park to a good standard, even for a Premier League club.
However, a move to Celtic might be better for the 35-year-old, who should avoid the risk of tarnishing his status as a Prem legend and try his luck further north, instead.
Control the middle
The four-time African Player of the Year was renowned for his strength, powerful runs, passing range and hammer of a right foot – in all fairness, there was very little missing from his game – and, while being well into his twilight years, he could still bring those qualities to Parched.
Celtic suffered a 1-0 defeat to bitter rivals Rangers as we entered 2019 – Brendan Rodgers first Old Firm derby loss – in which they were played off the park by Steven Gerrard’s men. Scott Brown was particularly poor but none of the Hoops midfielders covered themselves in glory, with Oliver Ntcham also struggling to keep hold of the ball – Toure would be able to bring calmness and control to the game by using his large frame and eye for a pass.
The veteran has become a legend in the blue half of Manchester but could become a cult hero at Celtic Park if he guides the Hoops beyond the Gers and to the title.
