A day of drama continues in the Premier League. After Liverpool’s defeat to Swansea, Stoke City have upset another English giant, taking a 1-0 lead into half-time against Manchester United.
It was Marko Arnautovic who provided the goal, his cross cannoning off Juan Mata and slipping past David de Gea at his near post.
It’s a bitter blow for Manchester United who had been hoping to close the gap on arch-rivals Liverpool to two points after their lunchtime loss.
To add to United fans’ frustrations, Juan Mata missed a glorious chance to redeem himself and stick home an equaliser from close range.
Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini have failed to get to grips with the midfield meaning Zlatan Ibrahimovic has looked isolated at the tip of the United attack.
They now require a massive second half performance to overturn the deficit. Draws are no good right now for United and three points are a must if they’re to edge towards their ambition of achieving UEFA Champions League football next season.
Can they turn it around? There’s still hope for them, with the pressure increasing on Stoke as the half wore on.
Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the shocking first half…
