At the weekend, West Ham United co-chairman David Sullivan insisted in a statement via the club’s official website that he and his colleagues were working hard behind the scenes to bring in more players before tonight’s transfer deadline.
The East London outfit have already recruited midfielder Joao Mario from Porto on loan for the rest of the season, but fans have been calling for more reinforcements.
With Andy Carroll set for another spell on the sidelines, rumours rumbled that the Hammers were looking for an attacking player.
Daniel Sturridge and Islam Slimani have been among the names circling, but it appears that the club are on the verge of bringing in Preston North End forward Jordan Hugill.
According to Sky Sports, West Ham are in advanced talks with the Championship club over the potential signing of the 25-year-old.
The report claims that Crystal Palace have also shown an interest in Hugill, who was the subject of a rejected £8m bid in the summer.
Judging by the reaction on Twitter, West Ham fans are not best pleased with the club’s pursuit of Hugill, who has scored 10 goals in 29 appearances this season.
