The 33-year-old Cameroonian defender exited the Premier League after eight years when his contract with the Reds expired at the end of last season. However, he could now make a comeback to the English top flight as West Ham have shown interest in the centre-back, according to talkSPORT.

The Hammers signed players like Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo while the summer transfer window was open, but they also parted ways with defenders Thilo Kehrer, Angelo Ogbonna, Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd. The report adds that new manager Julen Lopetegui is looking to further strengthen the team's backline and as a result, the club have initiated talks with Matip.
