Only a few days remain of the January transfer window, meaning it is all systems go for clubs trying to secure themselves a last minute deal or two.
It has been a relatively quiet window thus far with the biggest move being the departure of Chelsea’s Brazilian star Oscar, who became the latest big name to make his way to the Chinese Super League for a huge fee of £60m.
Memphis Depay, Gerard Deulofeu and West Ham United flop Simeone Zaza are amongst those to say goodbye to Europe’s top league too, having joined Lyon, AC Milan and Valencia respectively.
There has been a good amount of business between Premier League clubs too – for example, Morgan Schneiderlin ‘s move from Old Trafford to Goodison Park and Spurs’ Tom Carroll swapping the Lilywhites for the Swans as he moved to the Liberty Stadium – however, a few clubs are yet to move made a marquee signing.
One club who are usually quiet during the winter transfer period, much to the frustration of their own fans, is Arsenal. With a title challenge still on, could it be time for Arsene Wenger to finally part way with some of his Christmas money this year?
Here are FOUR last-minute signings we think the Gunner’s should consider…
Danilo Pereira
Arsene Wenger continues to utilise Granit Xhaka as a defensive midfielder rather than playing him in his natural position of further up in the field, and it absolutely baffles me. Xhaka is certainly at his best when he able to dictate play through the middle, and use his brilliant range of passing, as well as thunderbolt strike, to best effect.
Porto’s Danilo is a natural defensive midfielder who is more comfortable sitting in front of the back four and breaking the play up. A player of his attributes is what Arsenal have been lacking for years, and reports from his homeland have revealed that he’s been scouted by the Gunners.
Jordan Pickford
Petr Cech is, arguably, still the best all-round goalkeeper in the Premier League, and his No.2, David Ospina, isn’t exactly shoddy either. So why sign Jordan Pickford?
The answer is simple: to get him before anyone else does. The young ‘keeper is the talk of the Premier League, and with Sunderland likely to be playing Championship football next season, a host of clubs will be chasing his signature come the summer.
Why not beat them to it while his value remains relatively low and bag themselves one of England’s hottest young prospects too. It would be a risk given that he’s currently injured, but fortune favours the brave…
Isco
One of the most talented midfielders in the whole of Europe is going to waste at the Bernabeu. While his playing time may be on the up at Madrid, it is simply not acceptable for a player of his quality to be warming the bench – he should be playing week in and week out.
He would cost a fair amount of money, valued at £30 million, but for me, that is a steal for a player who has the ability to be one of the Premier League’s best. Creative, thoughtful and skilful in equal measure, the young Spaniard could be the perfect man to complete the Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil trio.
